Eric Snelz, President of the SWVF Board of Directors, emphasized, “This brings our total Veteran Suicide Prevention Grants awarded to $84,500 as we continue our dedicated fight to do what we can to combat the national tragedy of Veteran suicide.” He also thanked “all who have contributed to our Veteran Suicide Prevention Fund, for without each of you, these grants would not be possible.” Tom Sheets, Executive Director added “we also want to thank our Veteran Suicide Prevention Program Sponsor Devoted Health Plans.”

Arizona has the 6th highest Veteran suicide rate in the nation. Male Veterans commit suicide at 150% the rate of non-Veteran males in the general population. Female Veterans commit suicide at 250% the rate of non-Veteran females in the general population.

The SWVF Veteran Suicide Prevention Program (VSPP) established an initial goal to raise $100,000 to fight this national epidemic. To date they have raised $112,854.
