Another Memorial Day has come and gone. We purposely waited until after Memorial Day to publish our Memorial Day message. Why would we do that?
Our concern is just that…another Memorial Day has come and gone…and so too, we fear, are many Americans’ thoughts about those for whom we honor and the impacts their losses have had on their families, friends, and loved ones.
Think we are wrong? Here is a simple test with which you can gauge for yourself. How many American flags did you see proudly displayed and flying this past Memorial Day weekend? How many do you see today?
For far too many Americans, Memorial Day is about backyard barbecues and a day on the lake. To be sure, you can do both, but how many actually do both? How many actually celebrated a moment of silence during their barbecue or party? How many watched the annual Memorial Day Concert on Sunday?
We do not know the answers to those questions, but we do know…
For those who lost family members or loved ones in the service our Country, every day is Memorial Day!
Memorial Day is a day of solemn reflection and remembrance. Will you join us in making every day a Memorial Day?
In my neighborhood there are a number of flags that fly throughout the year which I assume is an exception. However, I can’t speak to any moments of silence at a BBQ and unless a Veteran is involved, probably not done. Good to think about for next year’s gathering.
